Trees swallow new house.
I used to complain that there wasn't much of a police presence in Cambridge-Narrows. Well, things have changed. There's a gorgeous new house that's just been built across the lake by two retired RCMP officers.

I can admire the new house up until the trees send out their leaves and obscure the view. The house more or less disappeared on or around May 26 this year.

Video screen-shot of the Nashwaak River.
I paddled down the Nashwaak River from Marysville to Fredericton...it was glorious. Why have I never done this before (answer: ignorant, apathetic, figuratively blind, literally dumb, etc.)?

I enjoyed this adventure with Julian, Doug, Patricia, Kathleen and Anna. We weren't alone on the river, though. There were countless other kayakers, canoeists, and people fishing from the banks and from boats. Nice to see the river so well used.

Black Bear
Winnie the....BEAR! I saw this fellow while driving from Cambridge-Narrows to Oromocto. The moose fencing kept him (her?) on one side of the fence, me on the other...just the way I like it.

The bear didn't seem too scared of the cars and truck that sped past on the highway. I probably see bears about once every three years, so this was a real treat.

At only 4 feet deep, this is just a minor hazard.
People make a lot of fuss about the condition of the roads in Cambridge-Narrows. Our recent election may have been won or lost because of the conditions of our roads...who knows?

I don't know what the big deal is all about. The pothole in this picture wasn't big enough for a car to fit inside, so it's not all that dangerous. When I fell in, I was able to easily climb back out. The expression of helplessness in this picture, well, I was just faking it. I wasn't even hurt. I just put my hands on the edge of the crater and was able to pull myself out.

A large powerboat sits onshore.
It seems like almost every year there's a rescue operation to save someone's boat that has broken free of its shackles. The one in the picture was a particularly juicy prize, a big Doral.

Lucky for the owner, the boat came to rest on a silty/sandy bottom. It could have been much worse. The owners got the boat freed but with some difficulty.

'The Sirens' will strike again, no doubt.

Wild turkeys...now available in New Brunswick.
Most turkeys that I encounter are driving about 20 feet behind me, on the highway, regardless of the fact that I'm doing the speed limit or slightly above. Yes...I'm referring to the tailgating turkeys of New Brunswick. Everyday there's a sighting.

These gobblers were the real deal. We spotted them between Springfield and Bloomfield when we were driving to Saint John. There were four of them. Two couples I'd say.

They looked delicious...errr, ummm, I mean they looked hideously attractive. Nice to have them in the province.

The Lake Diva.
Wendy and I bought kayaks (Necky Manitou Sports) this spring and we've been enjoying paddling around the lake in and around where we live.

Hanging with 'me Mootha' and 'me Faetha' at Narrowleaf.

In The Beginning....

May 2012...Narrowleaf.
May 22, 2012...time to start another blog. This one is simply going to be a collection of quick thoughts and images that resonate (with moi). I'll start with a picture of my home, Narrowleaf, on the shores of Washademoak Lake in Cambridge-Narrows, N.B.
